What Is an Animal Wheel?
An Animal Wheel is a random animal picker that selects one eligible entry from an animal list. Press Spin, and the animal spinner visually reveals the selected entry.
Enabled entries form the wheel segments. The pointer and result panel identify the same selected entry when the spin finishes.
How to Use the Animal Wheel
Review the enabled animal entries, press Spin, and read the selected animal. Keep the original preset or edit the list to match your activity.
- Review the animalsKeep the original preset or edit the enabled entries.
- Press SpinStart a selection from the current eligible pool.
- Read the selected animalThe pointer and accessible result text reveal the same entry.
After the result, Spin Again keeps the current pool, Remove Winner deletes the selected entry, and Dismiss closes the result. History shows completed selections. Wheel Settings contains title, palette, spin duration, Sound and Celebration controls. Fullscreen is available where the browser supports it.
With more than 40 enabled entries, labels are hidden on the wheel for readability. The entry list and accessible result text still identify the animals; the original 50-entry preset uses this display behavior.
Which Animals Are Included in the Wheel?
The default wheel contains 50 animal entries. Each original label appears once, and all 50 entries are enabled. This is the tool’s preset, not a complete biological inventory.

Your current user-edited or saved list can differ from the original default. Check the enabled entries in the live tool before spinning. Reset restores the original 50 entries and settings and clears history.
Create Your Own Custom Animal Wheel
You can add, edit, delete or disable animals, paste one entry per line, and shuffle the entry order. Make a farm-themed, sea-themed, pet-themed or classroom shortlist for your own activity.
The shared editor accepts text labels and does not validate animal names. Each entry can contain up to 200 characters, and the wheel supports up to 500 entries. You can use a custom label where it helps your activity.
- Cow
- Sheep
- Goat
- Horse
Disabling an entry excludes it without deleting it. Shuffle changes entry order, not each enabled entry’s chance. Reset returns to the original preset.
What Can You Use a Random Animal Wheel For?
Use a random animal wheel for classroom activities, animal-learning games, nature research, guessing games, charades, writing or story prompts, drawing prompts and creative challenges.
Classroom activities
Choose an animal for a learning activity or a short research task.
Animal-learning games
Practice recognizing names and describing an animal’s features.
Guessing games & charades
Pick an animal to describe or act out for others to guess.
Nature activities
Choose an animal as the starting point for your own nature research.
Writing & story prompts
Give a story a selected animal character or subject.
Drawing & creative challenges
Use a selected animal as one possible drawing prompt or creative task.
Drawing is one activity among many; this tool’s main purpose is selecting an animal. To pick a person by name instead, use the Wheel of Names.
How Does the Animal Wheel Pick an Animal?
The engine selects an enabled entry using random values from your browser’s Web Crypto API before the wheel starts moving. Rejection sampling avoids an uneven mapping from those values to entry positions.
How the Animal Wheel Works
- AnimalsEnabled entries form the animal pool.
- Press SpinYou initiate the selection.
- Secure Random SelectionWeb Crypto supplies random values.
- Animal SelectedThe selected entry determines the final rotation.
- Wheel AnimatesThe display moves toward that segment.
- ResultThe pointer and result show the same animal.
Eligible animals → Press Spin → secure random selection → animal selected → final rotation calculated → wheel animates → result. If secure random values are unavailable, no winner is selected and the tool reports an error.
Does Every Animal Have an Equal Chance?
When every enabled animal entry appears once and entries have equal weight, each animal label has the same chance. With the original 50 unique enabled entries, that is 1 / 50, or 2% per entry.
Equal Chance in the Default Preset
When every enabled animal entry appears once and has equal weight.
1 eligible entryout of 50 equal-weight enabled entries
1/50chance per entry
2%1 ÷ 50 × 100 = 2%
Each enabled entry receives one equal chance. Disabled entries are excluded. Disabling or removal changes the pool; duplicate labels can change an animal’s combined probability. Use the current enabled-entry count for your odds rather than assuming the original preset still applies.
What Happens If the Same Animal Appears Twice?
Duplicate animals count as separate eligible entries. With Lion, Tiger, Panda, Elephant, every label has 25%. With Lion, Lion, Tiger, Panda, Lion has 50%, while Tiger and Panda each have 25%.
Duplicate Animals Change the Odds
Unique enabled entries
- Lion
- Tiger
- Panda
- Elephant
Duplicate enabled entries
- Lion
- Lion
- Tiger
- Panda
Each duplicate has its own entry ID and equal chance. Repeated labels increase that displayed animal’s combined chance; this is not a dedicated weighting control.
Can the Same Animal Be Picked Again?
Yes. If an entry displaying the selected animal stays eligible, it can be selected again on a later spin. Random results do not have to alternate.
The selection logic does not use previous result history to choose the next entry. With the same eligible pool, an earlier result does not make another animal “due.” A previous result does not change the next selection unless the eligible pool changes.
Can You Remove an Animal and Spin Again?
Yes. Remove Winner removes the selected entry by its unique ID before the next spin. It does not remove every entry with the same displayed animal or erase that result from history.
If two separate Lion entries exist and one selected Lion is removed, another Lion entry may remain. Spin Again keeps the current entries. If none remain enabled, add or enable an entry or use Reset before spinning.
Does the Animal Wheel Save My Animals?
Where browser storage is available, entries, settings and the latest 100 results persist locally in the same browser/device. The wheel uses localStorage; this is not account or cloud saving, cross-device sync or a shareable saved wheel.
Clearing site data or browser restrictions can remove or prevent saved state. If storage is unavailable, changes work for the current page session. Reset restores the original animal preset and settings and clears history.
Animal Wheel vs Random Animal Generator
A conventional random animal generator often displays a selected animal directly. This Animal Wheel selects an eligible entry and visually reveals the result through a spinning wheel.
Choose the presentation that fits your activity. A wheel is not inherently more random or fair than every other generator; the selection method and configuration matter. For arbitrary choices beyond animals, use the Random Wheel.
