      What Is a Letter Wheel?

A Letter Wheel is a random letter picker that selects one eligible entry from an alphabet or custom letter list. Press Spin, and the letter spinner visually reveals the selected letter.

Enabled letter entries form the wheel segments. The pointer and result panel identify the same selected entry when the spin finishes. The original preset is the English alphabet A–Z.

How to Use the Letter Wheel

Review the enabled letters, press Spin, and read the selected letter. Keep the alphabet preset or change the list to fit your activity.

      1. Review the lettersKeep the A–Z preset or edit the enabled entries.
      2. Press SpinStart a selection from the current eligible pool.
      3. Read the selected letterThe pointer and accessible result text reveal the same entry.

After the result, Spin Again keeps the current pool, Remove Winner deletes the selected entry, and Dismiss closes the result. History shows completed selections. Wheel Settings contains title, palette, spin duration, Sound and Celebration controls. Fullscreen is available where the browser supports it.

      Spin the A–Z Letter Wheel

The original A–Z wheel contains 26 English alphabet letters, A through Z, once each and all enabled. Press Spin to randomly pick one letter from A to Z.

The original default contains A through Z once each, all enabled. Your current list can differ after edits or when saved browser state is restored.

Edits and saved browser state can change the current list. Check the enabled entries before spinning. Reset restores the original alphabet and settings and clears history.

Create Your Own Custom Letter Wheel

You can add, edit, delete or disable letters, paste one entry per line, and shuffle the entry order. Try a vowel wheel or a selected set of initials.

The shared editor also accepts text labels; it is not technically restricted to single-character letters. Each entry can contain up to 200 characters, and the wheel supports up to 500 entries. Keep labels short when you want a clear letter-focused wheel.

Disabling an entry excludes it from selection without deleting it. Shuffle changes entry order, not each enabled entry’s chance. Above 40 enabled entries, wheel labels are hidden for readability; the entry list and result still identify the entries. Reset returns to the original A–Z preset.

How Does the Letter Wheel Pick a Letter?

The engine selects an enabled entry using random values from your browser’s Web Crypto API before the wheel starts moving. Rejection sampling avoids an uneven mapping from those values to entry positions.

      How the Letter Wheel Works

      1. LettersEnabled entries form the letter pool.
      2. Press SpinYou initiate the selection.
      3. Secure Random SelectionWeb Crypto supplies random values.
      4. Letter SelectedThe selected entry determines the final rotation.
      5. Wheel AnimatesThe display moves toward that segment.
      6. ResultThe pointer and result show the same letter.
Selection determines the letter. Animation reveals it. The engine calculates the final rotation for the selected entry before the wheel animates. The pointer reveals the result already chosen.

Eligible letters → Press Spin → secure random selection → letter selected → final rotation calculated → wheel animates → pointer shows the result. If secure random values are unavailable, no winner is selected and the tool reports an error.

Does Every Letter Have an Equal Chance?

When every enabled letter appears once, each letter has the same chance. With 26 unique enabled A–Z entries, that is 1 / 26, approximately 3.85% per letter.

      ≈ 3.85% each1 ÷ 26 × 100 = 3.846153…%

These odds describe 26 unique enabled A–Z entries. Editing, disabling, removing or duplicating entries can change the current pool and its probabilities.

Each enabled entry receives one equal chance. Disabled entries are excluded. Edits, disabling, removal or duplicates change the current pool and may change the probabilities, so 3.85% does not apply unconditionally to a custom wheel.

What Happens If You Add the Same Letter Twice?

      Duplicate letters count as separate eligible entries. With A, B, C, D, every letter has 25%. With A, A, B, C, A has 50%, while B and C each have 25%.

      Duplicate labels are separate eligible entries. In A, A, B, C, A occupies 2 of 4 entries (50%); B and C each occupy 1 of 4 (25%). This is not a dedicated weighting feature.

Each duplicate has its own entry ID and equal chance. Repeated labels increase that displayed letter’s combined chance; this is not a dedicated weighting control.

Can the Same Letter Be Picked Again?

Yes. If an entry displaying the selected letter stays eligible, it can be selected again on a later spin. Random results do not have to alternate.

The selection logic does not use previous result history to choose the next entry. With the same eligible pool, an earlier result does not make another letter “due.” Removing or disabling an entry changes the pool and can change the next-spin odds.

Can You Remove a Letter and Spin Again?

Yes. Remove Winner removes the selected entry by its unique ID before the next spin. It does not remove every entry with the same displayed letter or erase that result from history.

If two separate A entries exist and one selected A is removed, another A entry may remain. Spin Again keeps the current entries. If none remain enabled, add or enable an entry or use Reset before spinning.

Does the Letter Wheel Save My Letters?

Where browser storage is available, entries, settings and the latest 100 results persist locally in the same browser/device. The wheel uses localStorage; this is not account or cloud saving, cross-device sync or a shareable saved wheel.

Clearing site data or browser restrictions can remove or prevent saved state. If storage is unavailable, changes work for the current page session. Reset restores the original A–Z entries and settings and clears history.

Letter Wheel vs Random Letter Generator

A conventional random letter generator often displays a selected letter directly. This Letter Wheel selects an eligible entry and visually reveals it using a spinning wheel.

Choose the presentation that fits your activity. A wheel is not inherently more random or fair than every other generator; the selection method and configuration matter. For arbitrary choices beyond letters, use the Random Wheel.

      Frequently Asked Questions

      What is a Letter Wheel?

A Letter Wheel is a random letter picker that selects one eligible letter entry and reveals it with a spinning wheel. The original preset contains the 26 English letters A–Z.

How do I randomly pick a letter?

Review the enabled entries, press Spin, and read the selected letter at the pointer and in the result panel. Keep the A–Z preset or edit the letters first.

      Can I spin a wheel from A to Z?

Yes. The original default contains A through Z once each, all enabled. If you have changed the list, Reset restores that 26-letter preset and its original settings and clears history.

Does every letter have an equal chance?

When every enabled letter appears once, each has an equal chance. With 26 unique enabled A–Z entries, each letter has 1/26, approximately 3.85%. Disabled, removed or duplicate entries change the pool and may change the odds.

Can I create my own Letter Wheel?

Yes. Add, edit, delete or disable entries, paste letters one per line, or shuffle their order. The shared editor also accepts text labels; it is not restricted to single-character letters.

What happens if I add the same letter twice?

      Duplicate labels are separate eligible entries. In A, A, B, C, A has 2 of 4 chances (50%); B and C each have 1 of 4 (25%).

Can the same letter be selected more than once?

Yes, if an entry showing that letter stays eligible. Results do not have to alternate, and previous history does not make another letter due. Remove Winner deletes only the selected entry ID, so another duplicate can remain.

Does the Letter Wheel save my letters?

Where browser storage is available, entries, settings and the latest 100 results persist locally in the same browser/device. There is no account or cloud saving or cross-device sync. Reset restores the original A–Z entries and settings and clears history.
