What Is a Country Wheel?
A Country Wheel is a random country picker that selects one eligible entry from a country list. Press Spin, and the country spinner visually reveals the selected entry.
Enabled entries form the wheel segments. The pointer and result panel identify the same selected entry when the spin finishes.
How to Use the Country Wheel
Review the enabled country entries, press Spin, and read the selected country. Keep the original preset or edit the list to match your activity.
- Review the countriesKeep the original preset or edit the enabled entries.
- Press SpinStart a selection from the current eligible pool.
- Read the selected countryThe pointer and accessible result text reveal the same entry.
After the result, Spin Again keeps the current pool, Remove Winner deletes the selected entry, and Dismiss closes the result. History shows completed selections. Wheel Settings contains title, palette, spin duration, Sound and Celebration controls. Fullscreen is available where the browser supports it.
With more than 40 enabled entries, labels are hidden on the wheel for readability. The entry list and accessible result text still identify the countries; the original 195-entry preset uses this display behavior.
Which Countries Are Included in the Wheel?
The default wheel contains 195 country entries. Each original label appears once, and all 195 entries are enabled. This describes the tool’s default preset, not a universal geographic count.

Your current user-edited or saved list can differ from the original default. Check the enabled entries in the live tool before spinning. Reset restores the original 195 entries and settings and clears history.
Create Your Own Custom Country Wheel
You can add, edit, delete or disable countries, paste one entry per line, and shuffle the entry order. Build a travel shortlist, geography-game list or study list that fits your activity.
The shared editor accepts text labels and does not validate country names. Each entry can contain up to 200 characters, and the wheel supports up to 500 entries. You can use a custom label where it helps your activity.
- Italy
- Spain
- France
- Portugal
Disabling an entry excludes it without deleting it. Shuffle changes entry order, not each enabled entry’s chance. Reset returns to the original preset.
What Can You Use a Random Country Wheel For?
Use a random country wheel for geography activities, classroom games, country quizzes, travel inspiration, cultural research topics, writing prompts, country challenges or study activities.
Geography activities
Pick an entry to locate, describe or compare in a classroom activity.
Country quizzes
Choose the subject of the next geography question.
Travel inspiration
Choose a starting point for your own travel research.
Cultural research
Select a place for a cultural research topic or study activity.
Writing prompts
Use a selected country as a setting or research prompt.
Country challenges
Choose the focus of a casual geography challenge.
A travel result is only random inspiration for further research. It does not establish suitability, safety or visa eligibility. To pick a person by name instead, use the Wheel of Names.
How Does the Country Wheel Pick a Country?
The engine selects an enabled entry using random values from your browser’s Web Crypto API before the wheel starts moving. Rejection sampling avoids an uneven mapping from those values to entry positions.
How the Country Wheel Works
- CountriesEnabled entries form the country pool.
- Press SpinYou initiate the selection.
- Secure Random SelectionWeb Crypto supplies random values.
- Country SelectedThe selected entry determines the final rotation.
- Wheel AnimatesThe display moves toward that segment.
- ResultThe pointer and result show the same country.
Eligible countries → Press Spin → secure random selection → country selected → final rotation calculated → wheel animates → pointer shows the result. If secure random values are unavailable, no winner is selected and the tool reports an error.
Does Every Country Have an Equal Chance?
When every enabled country entry appears once and entries have equal weight, each country label has the same chance. With the original 195 unique enabled entries, that is 1 / 195, approximately 0.513% per entry.

1 eligible entryout of 195 equal-weight enabled entries
1/195chance per entry
≈ 0.513%1 ÷ 195 × 100 = 0.512820…%
Each enabled entry receives one equal chance. Disabled entries are excluded. Disabling or removal changes the pool; duplicate labels can change a country’s combined probability. Use the current enabled-entry count for your odds rather than assuming the original preset still applies.
What Happens If the Same Country Appears Twice?
Duplicate countries count as separate eligible entries. With Italy, Japan, Brazil, Canada, every label has 25%. With Italy, Italy, Japan, Brazil, Italy has 50%, while Japan and Brazil each have 25%.
Duplicate Countries Change the Odds

Each duplicate has its own entry ID and equal chance. Repeated labels increase that displayed country’s combined chance; this is not a dedicated weighting control.
Can the Same Country Be Picked Again?
Yes. If an entry displaying the selected country stays eligible, it can be selected again on a later spin. Random results do not have to alternate.
The selection logic does not use previous result history to choose the next entry. With the same eligible pool, an earlier result does not make another country “due.” Prior selections do not change a future draw unless the eligible pool changes.
Can You Remove a Country and Spin Again?
Yes. Remove Winner removes the selected entry by its unique ID before the next spin. It does not remove every entry with the same displayed country or erase that result from history.
If two separate Italy entries exist and one selected Italy is removed, another Italy entry may remain. Spin Again keeps the current entries. If none remain enabled, add or enable an entry or use Reset before spinning.
Does the Country Wheel Save My Countries?
Where browser storage is available, entries, settings and the latest 100 results persist locally in the same browser/device. The wheel uses localStorage; this is not account or cloud saving, cross-device sync or a shareable saved wheel.
Clearing site data or browser restrictions can remove or prevent saved state. If storage is unavailable, changes work for the current page session. Reset restores the original country preset and settings and clears history.
Country Wheel vs Random Country Generator
A conventional random country generator often displays a selected country directly. This Country Wheel selects an eligible entry and visually reveals the result through a spinning wheel.
Choose the presentation that fits your activity. A wheel is not inherently more random or fair than every other generator; the selection method and configuration matter. For arbitrary choices beyond countries, use the Random Wheel.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Country Wheel?
A Country Wheel is a random country picker that selects one eligible country entry and reveals it with a spinning wheel. You can keep the original preset or customize the list.
How do I randomly pick a country?
Review the enabled entries, press Spin, and read the selected country at the pointer and in the result panel. You can edit the list first.
Which countries are included in the Country Wheel?
The default wheel contains 195 unique country entries. The original preset names are listed on this page. This is the tool’s preset, not a claim of universal geographic completeness; your saved or edited list can differ.
Does every country have an equal chance?
When every enabled country entry appears once and entries have equal weight, each has an equal chance. With the original 195 enabled entries, each is 1/195, approximately 0.513%. Pool changes can change these odds.
Can I create my own Country Wheel?
Yes. Add, edit, delete or disable entries, paste one per line, or shuffle their order. The shared editor accepts text labels and does not validate country names.
What happens if I add the same country twice?
Duplicate labels are separate eligible entries. In Italy, Italy, Japan, Brazil, Italy has 2 of 4 chances (50%); Japan and Brazil each have 1 of 4 (25%).
Can the same country be selected again?
Yes, if an entry showing that country stays eligible. Results do not need to alternate, and history does not make another country due. Remove Winner deletes only the selected entry ID.
Does the Country Wheel save my countries?
Where browser storage is available, entries, settings and the latest 100 results persist locally in the same browser/device. There is no account or cloud saving or cross-device sync. Reset restores the original preset and settings and clears history.
